Christmas in Volos 2025: A month full of magic and events

The Municipality of Volos welcomes this year’s Christmas with a rich programme of events that starts on Tuesday 2 December 2025 with the lighting of the city and lasts until Sunday 4 January 2026 with the lantern night. The city is transformed into a magical destination with events for all ages and tastes.

The program is inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the city on Volos beach with Thodoris Ferris, while this year Christmas magic comes alive at ZACHAROCHORA in Panepistimiou Square – a delicious, fairytale park full of lights and… sweet surprises
awaits you with free entrance for everyone and free use of Karousel!
The next day, December 3, the Municipal Theatre hosts the popular music programme “Laika” with Kostas Makedonas and Giota Nega.
Important musical appearances follow:
- Italian Tenors – “A Touch of Christmas” (12 December)
- “Elladografia” with Yannis Vouros (16 December)
- Musical Hits & Soundtracks with Panagiotis Petrakis and Katerina Ververis (17 December)
- Christmas Dreams with Mario Fragoulis and George Perris (19 December)
- On the street and in the squares: Marquis, Obrax Band, PALSAR etc.
- Traditional and New Year carols by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Volos
- The traditional New Year’s Concert of the Symphony Orchestra (1 January)
The musical events remain the main pillar of the festive programme, which covers the whole range of the Greek and international scene.
The Municipal Regional Theatre and the Old Electric present a series of remarkable productions:
“A Long Day’s Journey through the Night” One of the most important theatrical productions of the year, starring Marianna Toumassatou, with performances almost throughout December and the first days of January.
“Fusta Blouse” The successful comedy by Reppa – Papathanasiou will be staged at the Municipal Theatre of Nea Ionia on 18 and 22 December.
Theatrical performances, dramas, comedies and theatrical adaptations are offered to the audience in a daily programme.
The City Museum hosts the permanent exhibition “Volos 10+ Stories”, while the Photography Exhibition of Young Greek Photographers opens on 16 December.
On 5 December, the Exhibition of Works from the Permanent Collection of the Averoff Gallery opens its doors, which will remain open to the public throughout the holidays.
The city is transformed into a festive world for young and old alike:
- Christmas Park – Panepistimiou Square from December 2 to January 7, with free carousel and daily surprises.
- Christmas World – from 2 December to 6 January, open daily 10:00-23:00.
- In Agios Nikolaos Square, Ermou pedestrian street, Koumoundourou-Ermou with music, dance, children’s activities and a series of live events that culminate on Christmas Eve.
- 8th Volos Santa Run – December 30th one of the most beloved institutions that fills the city with Santa Clauses!
The historic Cine Achilleion participates this year in the festive atmosphere with two special screenings, on December 15 and 30, with free admission for the public.

A magical December in Volos. The Municipality of Volos’ festive programme for 2025-2026 is a comprehensive guide to festive activities covering all tastes and all ages. The city is filled with light, music and joy, creating the most beautiful Christmas setting for residents and visitors alike.
From concerts with top artists, theatre performances, Christmas events and children’s shows to street music, outdoor festivals and film screenings, Volos proves that it is the ultimate festive destination.
The programme culminates with the 7th Volos Santa Run on 30 December and the spectacular New Year’s Eve Concert of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra on 1 January 2025. The charitable dimension of the events is also noteworthy, with initiatives such as the festive meal for fellow citizens and the “Lantern Night” with the proceeds benefiting charitable institutions.
Volos proves once again that it is one of the most attractive Christmas destinations, combining tradition with modern entertainment and culture with charity.
